A holder of PhD in marine science and an author of about 50 peer reviewed papers, Jurgenne Primavera is a special woman with extraordinary intellect, passion, vision and judgment.
Primavera is very well respected and known for her works in prawn culture and mangrove forests. Primavera’s research established an important link between the mangroves and sustainability of marine culture.

Primavera is very well respected and known for her works in prawn culture and mangrove forests. Primavera’s research established an important link between the mangroves and sustainability of marine culture.
She recommended to prawn growers to set aside some 25 percent of their production area for mangroves to sustain production of prawns.
Although she is less recognized in the country due to the limited interest of majority of Filipinos to aquaculture and environmental issues, Primavera made it to the international scene by being named as an Environment Heroine of the Time Magazine in 2008.
Primavera is just one of the many talented and genius Filipinos who silently work for noble causes. Her kind are often less appreciated but their achievements provide a remarkable imprint to mankind’s history and development.
