He is the Pambansang Kamao (national fist) of millions of Filipinos all over the world. His life is inspiring to many. He became a living hero to the poor and a hope for the Filipino athletes.He is now a world personality. He has NBA and celebrity fans. For a 30-year-old diminutive boxer, Manny Pacquiao is indeed very special. Winning numerous titles in the world boxing arena, now he is about to face one of Great Britain’s known boxer, Ricky Hatton.
In their first meeting in United Kingdom, Pacquiao was more than eager to show his sportsmanship. In all his fights, Pacquiao was never too confident when interviewed. Just like any other determined Pinoy, he shows his prowess at the ring.
But Pacquiao, just like any other celebrity, wants political power all the same. His budding political career in the Philippines has yet to unfold.
"Every time I fight, I have to win because millions of Filipinos are hoping for victory. Every time I go home, after my fights, I do activities to help the people - and that's a part of my political career. It is incredibly hard to be a politician and popular, but that is to my advantage in running for office," said Pacquiao in a recent interview.
Good or bad, Pacquiao remains an inspiration to many. He is a true Filipino icon. I just hope that he will just stick it at the boxing world so as not to taint his name.
